| What is the difference between fasting and dieting?
I think there is a great difference between fasting and dieting. Dieting stands for loosing weigh, keeping your figure in shape. In other words, dieting tries to improve your physical health. But it can also damage your health if you do it unreasonably. For example, many people try to lose weight, because they think they are ugly. But it could be so that their weight is natural and they could damage their health.
As for fasting, I think it stands for boosting your moral health. Fasting doesn’t mean abstention from all the animal products in your diet but to abstain from things that you like very much. For example, I like crisps very much, though they are lean and they are not forbidden during the Lent, but still, I abstain from eating them as I like crisps very much. And for example, I don’t like dairy products, I eat them to stay healthy, and I can eat them during the Lent as I could damage my health if I abstain from them. My attitude is neutral towards dairy products, I don’t have an affection, I don’t like the taste of them. So, fasting means an abstention from things you have an affection to strengthen your mental health.

FIZZY DRINKS, food that contains a lot of FATS is CONSIDERED to be unhealthy. It is often called PROCESSED FOOD. But it is good for your MENTAL and PHYSICAL health to eat SUPERFOOD, for example NUTS, WHOLEMEAL BREAD, different fruits that contain a lot of VITAMINS. Thus, you can BOOST your IMMUNE SYSTEM and REDUCE THE RISK of different diseases. It is also good to do the sport, so you can be FIT and to MAINTAIN a good LEVEL OF FITNESS. Choosing it you also need to be careful in order not to HARM your physical health.

| Name a food / drink that caused you a short-term health problem.
During last summer exams, I developed a serious addiction to energy drinks. I always took those that contained not only caffeine and taurine, but also vitamins. However, it backfired. The increased content of vitamin B in energy drinks increases the heart rate and provokes trembling of the limbs. All last session I was shaking a leaf, couldn't sleep, and in the end I felt squeezed out like a lemon and absolutely miserable. Now, every time I drink energy drinks or anything caffeinated in general, my heart beats very strongly and my blood pressure rises. I don't know if a year is considered a long term, but it's a pretty unpleasant thing.
However, I got good grades that summer. I'm not drinking energy drinks this year, let's see what happens, shall we?

-- Giving up FIZZY DRINKS can REDUCE THE RISK of becoming fat due to great amount of SUGAR and low amount of VITAMINS in it. Food that contains a lot of FAT is believed to be UNHEALTHY, but sugar is way moore HARMFUL. Doesn't matter what SUPERFOOD you add to your DIET, if you eat a lot of salt and sugar, you won't be healthy PHYSICALLY and even MENTALLY.

| What is the difference between fasting and dieting?
There are two main differences between fasting and dieting: an inner one and an outer one. I'll start with the outer one. While dieting people try to exclude from their ration such things as FIZZY DRINKS, SUGARY FOODS and food with HIGH SALT AND FAT CONTENT. While fasting, on the other hand, people do not avoid eating all these types of food. Meanwhile, people try to eat more NUTS and other food which BOOSTS THE IMMUNE SYSTEM. The inner difference, however, lies in spiritual reasons. People undertake diets in order to loose weight or to conquer diverse health problems. While fasting people are trying to conquer their spiritual illnesses. Food is simply something which helps you, it doesn't make any sense if you "eat" your brother and don't eat meat.

| What do you do to boost your immune system?
To be honest, it's quite a sensitive subject for me. My immune system regularly makes my life too complex. I can easily catch viruses and colds. I always thought that the reason for it was my weak immune system, but, in fact, after several consultations with the doctor it turned out that I have a very active immune system. My doctor explained it by giving a real-life example: when ten fire engines come to put out one flaming rubbish bin. A fire can easily be put out by one, but ten fire trucks cause new problems in the city: traffic jams, for example. So it is with immunity. Wanting to defeat one minor virus, the body sacrifices itself just to get it out of the body as quickly as possible.
I got quite used to it by now, but sometimes my immune system fails me at the most crucial times. Unfortunately, there is no way to kill quickly the virus when it is already in your body, but I try to follow my small routine each day: in the mornings and evenings I rinse my nose with a salt water solution and use special nasal drops. I have been using it for a year now and it helped me to reduce the risk of seasonal illnesses and it also cured my constant runny nose problem. Also, I never eat ice-cream during cold seasons and try to consume more warm foods.

Добавлено (08.11.2023, 23:11) --------------------------------------------- As we age, PHYSICAL HEALTH becomes an increasingly important factor that plays a crucial role in forming our perceptions of the AGEING PROCESS. Therefore, including SUPERFOODS in the DIET becomes extremely important, as they often contain essential vitamins and minerals that support health. These VITAMINS play a big role in maintaining good physical health.

| Name a food / drink that caused you a short-term health problem.
My father has a coffee machine, so we have fresh and good coffee everyday. I can't say that I am a real coffee-lover, but sometimes it feels like you want to wake yourself up with the bright taste of it.
Well, one day I had some free time before my appointment. It was a very windy evening, and I was a bit hungry and stressed. Moscow is very famous for its cafes. I don't like processed food, so I bought some pastry and a cup of vanilla coffee. Two hours later there was this unpleasant feeling in my chest. I felt as if there was too much of energy in me that is not actually real. My heart was beating very fast and my hands were shaking so that I couldn't hold them still. I was afraid to have a heard attack.
The result is...I never drink coffee outside but at home. I can never be sure if other people don't add something in it and it is better not to drink coffee too much and in some different cafeteria as it can have some harmful effect on health.

"People often do not realise how stressful their jobs are" (section B ). Do you agree?
Yes, I agree with this because people can't rest. They can procrastinate, freeze, become hectic, but they cannot rest. Nowadays all your life is endless work and endless duties you have to cope with. A lot of assignments always cause a ton of stress. And still people can't see that their life style is not right.
You can draw a paper week/month/year calendar and draw green days you rested and see, that you don't relax enough. I believe people have to spend more time on what they find soothing.
4 ___________ 1) I have been drinking VITAMINS for one year. 2) I want to BOOST MY IMMUNE SYSTEM as I started to get cold very easily. 3) Also I try to MAINTAIN a good LEVEL OF FITNESS. 4) I EXERCISE every week with a trainer. 5) I have HIGH CHOLESTEROL level too. 6) I have to drink more water TO REDUCE THE RISK of having LONG-TERM heath problems.

| What is the difference between fasting and dieting?
I would say, that fasting is dieting for the soul. There are many kinds of diets for many reasons, most of them have the aim of loosing weight, while fast's aim is to limit our desires.
I think fasting and dieting have in common many fruit and vegetables eating. The aim of the diet is to be good for the body, while fasting actually has this aim too, but it's not the main one. The main thing of fasting is become closer to God, by reducing our passions and desires. People should not misunderstand and mix dieting with fasting. So, I would say, that fasting is dieting for the soul.
3,5 ------------------- 1. GREASY food has a lot of CHOLESTEROL, so if you want to LOWER it, eat apples, because they are a great source of VITAMIN C. 2. If you have troubles with your heart, eat VEGETABLES. 3. But if you want to be HEALTHY, WHOLEMEAL, NUTS, OILY FISH, SALMON, for example.

| There is a huge difference between fasting and dieting. Diet is a way to lose weight or restore health if there are any problems. The desire to go on a diet comes only from physical motives. In other words, to feel better and enjoy your appearance or not experience health problems. Fasting is something completely different. The desire to fast arises when we have a spiritual urge. We are not trying to acquire something, as is the case with a diet, but rather demolishing our energy and joy from earthly pleasures in order to focus on more important things. And besides, fasting does not only imply abstinence from food, otherwise it can really turn into a diet. More important is humility, communication with God and good deeds during fast.

----------------
CONSUMING a lot of PROCESSED FOOD can cause serious LONG-TERM health problems. For instance, during the fast we should eat more vegetables, oily fish, fruit and NUTS. These food not only REDUCE THE RISK OF illnesses but BOOST our IMMUNE SYSTEM. Also EXERCISING and an active way of life is important for health.

| Do you consume any superfoods? Why? Why not? I'm not sure I understand the concept of so-called "superfoods". As I've gathered, these are foods that have special properties which can improve our mental and physical health. But I don't really understand what these properties are, because, actually, any food contains some nutrients (except, of course, junk food, processed food, etc.). Every fruit, berry, or vegetable is a source of vitamins.
Still, there are some foods which are usually listed as superfoods. For example, blueberries. It is said that blueberries improve short-term memory and slow the ageing process. I like blueberries, but I don't eat them very often, because they are usually quite expensive (well, maybe that is the marker of their being a superfood). Apples are more budget-friendly. They are a good source of vitamin C (is there really more of it here than in lemons?) and can lower cholesterol. I can add that apples are also a good source of iron. From this list, I also like tomato juice that is said to reduce heart disease.
So, these are the superfoods I like to eat, but I still wonder what makes them so special among other foods. As for me, I consume the listed foods because I just like them.

| What health risks are you particularly concerned about? What do you do to reduce them?
As for me, I am particularly concerned about anemia, gastritis and heart disease. To reduce the risk of anemia, I eat more food rich in iron, such as red lentils, red meat, beans and spinach. To prevent gastritis, I maintain a balanced diet consisting of healthy, home-cooked food, including soups, oily fish, vegetables and fruits. I also try to eat less salty foods and increase my intake of fiber to lower my cholesterol levels. To avoid heart disease, I try to maintain a healthy lifestyle by avoiding stress, exercising regularly, improving my mental health and not smoking or drinking alcohol.

| What do you do to boost your immune system? To BOOST my IMMUNE SYSTEM I follow several important habits throughout the year. The food we CONSUME plays a MAJOR role in our well-being, that's why in winter I eat a lot of citrus fruits because they are an excellent SOURCE of vitamin C. During the spring and summer I eat plenty of fresh seasonal fruits and berries, which also contain vitamin C and help REDUCE THE RISK of getting sick. In autumn I support my body by taking a multivitamin complex. Beyond diet PHYSICAL activity and rest are essential, as they deeply affect our PHYSICAL and MENTAL health. I do my best to get at least 8 hours of sleep and also include DAILY EXERCISE into my daily routine.

| What do you do to keep fit? To maintain a good level of FITNESS, I try to make healthy choices every single day. I believe that regular EXERCISE is very important, so every second day I visit the gym in my dormitory basement with my friends. I also care about my diet, so I avoid PROCESSED FOOD and items with a high FAT CONTENT. Instead, I eat a lot of NUTS and blueberries because they are SUPERFOODS that can BOOST THE IMMUNE SYSTEM. Eating well and working out helps me support both my MENTAL and PHYSICAL health when I am busy with university exams. Finally, I avoid FIZZY drinks because they can cause LONG-TERM health problems if you consume them in large quantities.

| Which of your habits do you consider to be harmful? What harm do they cause? My eating schedule is far from regular. Often I can start to experience dizziness, stomach ache, nausea, and that's when I realise that I haven't eaten for a long time, because I just forgot to have a meal. And to feel better I just consume quick and easy ultra-processed food or junk food. I don't know why, but it's really hard for me to stick to regular eating schedule and have a healthy balanced diet, although I do realise that it is very harmful for my body.
What is the difference between fasting and dieting? Dieting is about physical condition. When I am dieting, I avoid products that are not good for my body in it's current state and, vise versa, consume products that are good for my health condition, e. g. something that has vitamins that I lack. As for fasting, it's not about physical, but rather about mental. From Christian point of view, fasting time, like Lent, is time to focus more on the life of the age to come rather than on our earthly life with it's earthly pleasures.

| List the foods that you eat most regularly. How many are (a) healthy (b) not so healthy?
(A) From the healthy foods I usually eat: 1. Oily fish like salmon. I try to eat this at least once a month despite I'm not a fish person. 2. Wholemeal bread for breakfast. 3. Spinach and other vegetables. 4. Vegetable juice, especially tomato juice.
(B) Talking about not so healthy foods, I eat: 1. Processed food. Occasionally I buy ready meals when I'm too busy. 2. Sugary foods. Sometimes I have fizzy drinks with my friends. 3. Food with high fat content, like cheese and butter.
I can say that something around 70% of my diet is healthy and 30% is not so healthy. I know that if processed food and sugary foods are consumed in large quantities, they can cause long-term health problems. That's why I try to limit them. I also know that superfoods like blueberries can boost the immune system and slow the ageing process.

| Do you ever eat food that you are 100% sure is not processed? If yes, where do you get it?
Do I eat food that is 100% not processed? Yes, I do. For me, this food is not from a shop. It comes from our dacha. My parents and I grow our own vegetables and fruits. We plant cucumbers, tomatoes, carrots, pumpkins and so on. In summer, we harvest them. When I eat fresh cucumber from our garden, I know it is 100% natural. We also grow strawberries. One important thing: I have an allergy to processed strawberries from the supermarket. They make my hands itch. But strawberries from our dacha I can eat without any worry about my health. So, if you want truly unprocessed food, you don't need a supermarket. You just need a little piece of land and some seeds.
