1 And Isaac called Jacob, and blessed him, and charged him, and said unto him, Thou shalt not take a wife of the daughters of Canaan.

2 Arise, go to Padanaram, to the house of Bethuel thy mother's father; and take thee a wife from thence of the daughters of Laban thy mother's brother.

3 And God Almighty bless thee, and make thee fruitful, and multiply thee, that thou mayest be a multitude of people;

4 And give thee the blessing of Abraham, to thee, and to thy seed with thee; that thou mayest inherit the land wherein thou art a stranger, which God gave unto Abraham.

5 And Isaac sent away Jacob: and he went to Padanaram unto Laban, son of Bethuel the Syrian, the brother of Rebekah, Jacob's and Esau's mother.

6 When Esau saw that Isaac had blessed Jacob, and sent him away to Padanaram, to take him a wife from thence; and that as he blessed him he gave him a charge, saying, Thou shalt not take a wife of the daughters of Canaan;

7 And that Jacob obeyed his father and his mother, and was gone to Padanaram;

8 And Esau seeing that the daughters of Canaan pleased not Isaac his father;

9 Then went Esau unto Ishmael, and took unto the wives which he had Mahalath the daughter of Ishmael Abraham's son, the sister of Nebajoth, to be his wife.

Isaac called Jacob, blessed him and sent him to Padanaram, a region in Mesopotamia. Jacob was to find a wife there, among his mother's relatives, not among the Canaanites. This inspired Esau to try to regain his father's blessing by taking Ishmael's daughter as his wife. I believe that Esau's act was out of a desire to make amends to his parents.

In this passage we see that Jacob went to Padanaram to find a wife. The fact that amuses me is that when Esau heard that Isaac was not pleased with the wives of the daughters of Canaan, he immediately went to Ishmael and took Ishmael's Mahalath to be his wife. It is important that two of Esau's previous wives were both Canaanites. It is very interesting that Esau, despite the grievance about the blessing and the birthright, still obeyed his father.

Jacob is sent to Padanaram to find a wife there in order to preserve the "purity" of the family. This is the main point in this passage, completely replacing the fact that the father forgives and does not even say a word to Jacob about his deception. Although, it would seem, deceiving the father is a grave sin. This indicates that it is not family ties or good relationships that are important to Isaас, but laws and blessings.

It is also interesting that Esau marries Mahalath to show his displeasure and disagreement. He chooses not something sublime, not prayer and humility, but base pleasures and useless revenge.

I think in this passage we can see that Esau was not ultimately blessed by his father, perhaps because he was impulsive and led by his anger. He tried to do things against his father's wishes, unable to control his grief. This means that he could not be a good example for future generations in terms of wisdom, cunning, and maturity. I believe this passage helps us see ourselves from another perspective. When we do not get what we want, we may start to blame others and hate them, which is not a good decision.
