| 41 And Esau hated Jacob because of the blessing wherewith his father blessed him: and Esau said in his heart, The days of mourning for my father are at hand; then will I slay my brother Jacob.
42 And these words of Esau her elder son were told to Rebekah: and she sent and called Jacob her younger son, and said unto him, Behold, thy brother Esau, as touching thee, doth comfort himself, purposing to kill thee.
43 Now therefore, my son, obey my voice; and arise, flee thou to Laban my brother to Haran;
44 And tarry with him a few days, until thy brother's fury turn away;
45 Until thy brother's anger turn away from thee, and he forget that which thou hast done to him: then I will send, and fetch thee from thence: why should I be deprived also of you both in one day?
46 And Rebekah said to Isaac, I am weary of my life because of the daughters of Heth: if Jacob take a wife of the daughters of Heth, such as these which are of the daughters of the land, what good shall my life dome?

| Esau hated Jacob with a secret hatred (in time, however, he forgot the offence Jacob had done to him), but out of respect for his father he decides to postpone revenge until after his expected death. When Rebekah heard about this, she sent Jacob to Haran where her brother Laban lived. She feared not only that Jacob would be killed, but also that Esau might run away or be killed in a blood feud, and then the mother would lose both her sons. But she told Isaac that she had sent Jacob away so that he would not marry the daughter of the Hittites. Jacob thought he would return soon, but it would not be for another twenty years. His father would still be alive, but his mother would be dead by then.

| In this abstract we see that Esau could not accept the fact that his blessing was given to Jacob. Esau was that jealous and furious, so he decided to kill his brother after Isaac's death. Rebekah loved Jacob very much and wanted to protect him. She did best for her beloved son: again, she deceived Isaac by saying that Jacob needs to find a good wife in Haran.

| Esau hated Jacob, and there was a reason for his hatred. In this abstract, we see not only a clash between two brothers, but also a collision between our modern understanding and the Old Testament. It's hard to imagine the strong resentment Esau felt, trying to put it into modern world. Of course, now we can't give all the benefits to the eldest child, depriving the younger one of everything. However, this law conflicts with Rebecca's love and foresight for her children, which goes beyond conventions and rules.

| In this passage, we see that anger can sometimes have no limits. Esau was so upset that he first became angry and then furious, wanting to kill his brother. We need to learn to control our emotions well, because if we don't get what we want, it doesn't mean our life is over. It could have been over for Esau, if he had continued to let his anger consume him.
