| 26 Then Abimelech went to him from Gerar, and Ahuzzath [ə'hazæθ] one of his friends, and Phichol [fī′kol] the chief captain of his army.
27 And Isaac said unto them, Wherefore come ye to me, seeing ye hate me, and have sent me away from you?
28 And they said, We saw certainly that the LORD was with thee: and we said, Let there be now an oath betwixt us, even betwixt us and thee, and let us make a covenant with thee;
29 That thou wilt do us no hurt, as we have not touched thee, and as we have done unto thee nothing but good, and have sent thee away in peace: thou art now the blessed of the LORD.
30 And he made them a feast, and they did eat and drink.
31 And they rose up betimes in the morning, and sware one to another: and Isaac sent them away, and they departed from him in peace.
32 And it came to pass the same day, that Isaac's servants came, and told him concerning the well which they had digged, and said unto him, We have found water.
33 And he called it Shebah: therefore the name of the city is Beersheba [bir'shi:bə, 'birshibə] unto this day.
34 And Esau was forty years old when he took to wife Judith the daughter of Beeri the Hittite, and Bashemath ['bæsimæθ] the daughter of Elon the Hittite:
35 Which were a grief of mind unto Isaac and to Rebekah.

| This passage clearly shows us how important forgiveness and humility are. Isaac not only received Abimelech and Ahuzzath, but also gave them a feast. More than once, God tells us how important it is to be hospitable and ready to feed our guests.

| On the same day that Isaac's alliance with Abimelech was made, the servants brought him good news of a spring of water which they had found. Isaac did not insist on repayment for the wells unjustly taken from him by the Philistines, lest he should break the treaty, but quietly accepted the loss; and as a reward for this, he immediately became one well richer, which, because it fitted so well with the events of the day, received the old name of Beersheba, which means «the well of the oath».

| This episode shows us that it is crucial to forgive our enemies. Isaac helped and forgave Abimelech despite the fact that Abimelech sent Isaac away. Firstly, Isaac remembered the words of God and helped. Secondly, Isaac was a humble and pious man, because he could have done the same as Abimelech did, but he preferred to do the opposite thing.

| I believe this passage demonstrates that even if others try to oppose you, if you remain loyal to God, He will ultimately protect you. There may be many temptations, but we must remain strong and remain calm, doing what is right as Isaac did.
