| There are wrong feelings hidden deeply in our hearts. At times they slip out into our actions; at times they are not even noticed, but they pollute those actions with the stench of sin. Thus, we must pray with David the Prophet: "Cleanse me from secret faults" (Psalm 19:12).

| Fr. Jack Sparks’ quote points out that feelings can influence our actions, even when we don’t notice them. I clearly see his point of view. Sin isn’t only about obvious bad choices, it often starts inside us as pride, jealousy, fear, or something alike. When those motives slip into what we do, they can spoil the value of otherwise good actions. And I agree with this idea completely. A simple example is when someone volunteers or donates money mainly to be praised or to look responsible. The action itself helps others, but the hidden desire for recognition makes it less selfless. Another example is giving advise to a friend while secretly wanting to control the situation. The quote actually reminds us that our motives matter just as much as our outward behaviour. This idea isn’t new to me, to be honest. It fits with my understanding of Christianity. In my view, faith has always been about changing the heart, not just fixing surface behaviour.

| I can see the point of that quote. For me personally, this is about being a hypocrite sometimes. It can be hard to admit, because we all wnt to look good from other's perspective, and this desire to be appreciated rather than to act out of pure intentions is wrong. As self-centered creatures, we always want to benefit from our actions in some way, and this feeling is hard to actually recognise because of how deeply-rooted it is within us. And because of that our desire to make some profit we may act wrong, guided by sinful and selfish intentions.
