| How can a man be crucified to the world? When, after being freed from external things he begins to combat against pleasure itself, against the desire of having things, against his own will, and he puts to death his evil passions.

| How can a man be crucified to the world? I see a deep meaning in this question. Each Christian carries their own cross. We see how our friends, family members and strangers have different paths with different complexities. Each person has their own path of renunciation.
Often, we don't want to give up pleasure for discomfort and our own well-being. How can we choose discomfort instead of well-being, poverty instead of wealth, tears instead of joy? The path of self-denial is difficult and requires strong motivation, namely, love - sincere and true love for God.
Crucifixion on the cross can lead to absolute renunciation of anger, lust and selfishness, but how? How can a man be crucified to the world? Everyone will answer this question at the Last Judgment.

| It is clear that our evil passions must be put to death, and our will must submit to the will of God, but the idea of "combat against pleasure itself, the desire of having things" is less obvious to me. I believe it is in the human nature to derive pleasure from doing good, and desiring good things, not necessarily material things. I do not think that just because it brings us pleasure to be kind, for instance, it makes our kindness insincere, selfish or calculated. Many saints commented on the joy that comes from prayer or almsgiving. This is why I agree with this quote only in part.
As for the verse it likely refers to (Galatians 6:14), being crucified to the world is linked to "the world being crucified to me". The world may treat Christian teaching with contempt or mock it, but to the Christian, it is not a threat, because he or she does not answer to the world, but to God.

| It all begins with Baptism, when a person or his godparent renounces the devil, dies to this world and is reborn for eternal life through the sacrament. Every Christian is called to renounce this world, because if he does not do this, he will not be able to move forward in spiritual life, to communicate with God, and this world will seem to press him to the ground and it will be very difficult to take off. There is a very good quote that shows the level we should strive for, namely the Epistle of the Apostle Paul to the Galatians 6:14: "But God forbid that I should glory, save in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the world is crucified unto me, and I unto the world." The Holy Fathers explain that the world here refers to people with their passions. A person must stop needing excesses and relying on what he has, because a Christian is dead to the wealth and glory of this world. He is called to be not of this world. At the same time if he is not interested in this world and finds it disgusting, as if it only distances him from God, therefore the world is dead for him.
