If the opportunity arises we should never refuse physical and especially spiritual help to the depraved, to foreigners, non-orthodox, heretics, atheists, and enemies, for all of them, no matter what their orientation or disposition, are human, all created by the Creator, all with an immortal soul and in the likeness of God.

Metropolitan Gregory (Postnikov) of St. Petersburg

I completely agree with this quote. We should help others because we never know when our actions might lead them to God. Once, I had a personal experience that made me feel really bad about my past mistakes. The priest told me during my confession that we live in a vast world, with many non-believers. It can be difficult to stay on the right path in such a big city (like Moscow). Being human is fine, but realising that we need to improve ourselves is essential. This is where the quote comes in: we should be like lanterns for those who feel lost or can't see their way forward. Also, we should never judge others, but rather judge their actions.
So, I completely agree with the quote that we should not turn away from those who are lost, as they need our help. Sometimes, it's just us who can wake them up from their "sleep."

I really like that the idea of this quote is to help everyone without any exception.
Indeed, in today's world there are many wars and disagreements. Some people nowadays suffer just because of their parentage, religious views and etc. I claim that this is absolutely awful, and we forget the main thing of our existence - all people are one brotherhood. People need to love each other, not kill. And if you love someone, you will always help that person if he/she is in trouble.
To conclude, helping each other is the greatest virtue of all, which spreads brotherly love and makes people closer to God and His Paradise.

I think this quote is representative of the Christian worldview. It reminds me of the Sermon on the Mount: "Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you <...> If you love those who love you, what credit is that to you?" (Luke 6:27-28, 32) In connection with the commandment to love our neighbour Christ told the parable of the Good Samaritan which puts mercy and compassion above ethnic and even religious divides (Luke 10:30–37). If the Church ministered only to those who were already devout believers, never evangelised or offered physical help to "outsiders" without expecting anything in return, it would not be the true Church. Christ Himself never refused people who came to Him for help, including foreigners, heretics, Roman soldiers and tax collectors. As Christians we must "go and do likewise".

It is quite interesting that saints and thinkers of various religions expressed this idea of loving and helping people with no regard to their social status (in such cases, belonging to a certain religion appears to be a social status to me). For example, St. Augustine in his "Confession" mentioned that religions are just clothes for the Truth; Sai Baba of Shirdi helped equally muslims and buddhists, -- he had a never-ending flow of pilgrims of both religions that he welcomed warmly in his mosque with a Budsudan inside; an Indian guru Shri-Shri Ravi Shankar is also helping people from different religions to stay where they are and enjoy what they have in terms of their beliefs, just spreading understanding and compassion. The very same approach is shared by my spiritual mother, to whom people come and never leave her without being helped or prayed for (which is basically the same, because God hearing her prayers helps them all), she calls all of them her friends, making no difference between nations or religions. I may be wrong, but what I see happening proves me right at least for myself: love is not just a Christian thing, it belongs to God who gave it to people, not to a certain group of them, and if we feel it and have it, we should give it to others, not thinking of any particularities of their social portrait (or thinking as much as it can help us to comfort them using "their language" as long as there are people who prefer particular ones).

I absolutely agree with the author of the quote. Every Christian believer is called to do good deeds and help people in difficult situations. Of course, it is very important to help even the most depraved and unbelieving people. Yet, it must be done carefully. In the quote, the author states that it is necessary to help both atheists and people of other religions. In such a situation, we should not forget that we, as members of the church, should always defend Orthodox teaching before atheists and enemies of the church as the only true teaching.

However, all people are children of God, all of us are brothers and sisters in Christ, and anyone, even the most hardened criminal, may need our help. In the Gospel, Christ calls us to absolute love and says: «Love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you, that you may be sons of your Father in heaven» [Mat. 5:44]. The Lord emphasises that one must be able to love not only one's «neighbours» but also one's «enemies». This is what absolute love is all about, it applies to everyone without exception. Metropolitan Gregory's words, in my opinion, directly refer us to the words of the Lord Himself. The author writes about the all-consuming love to which we are all called to strive. God is love, which means that as we strive for love, we also strive for God.

Of course, I totally agree with this quote. The Christian's mission is to help the poor and destitute. If all is obvious with physical help, we must assist, and we should not be blind. It is much more difficult with spiritual assistance.  However, both kinds of help might involve some issues.

In class, we discussed charity. It's often difficult to assist the poor on the street who ask for money, since this money won't always be used for good intentions. But there's a solution to this issue - donating money to trustworthy organizations.

But with spiritual aid, it's harder. How do you know if this help is truly needed? From personal experience, I can provide an example. A priest gave me advice. A close friend of mine was an unbeliever, and the priest advised me not to discuss faith with that person myself, nor invite them to services, unless the initiative came from that person. Indeed, through patience and personal example, that man was brought to God.

Christfirst of all commanded us to treat people the way we would like to be treated.
Secondly, by helping people in trouble, regardless of their faith and position
in society, we help Christ himself and save our souls. It is impossible not to
recall the parable of the good Samaritan from the Gospel of Luke, who is the
only one who supports a person, puts him on a donkey, gives him shelter and
promises to cover the extra expenses. This amazing example reminds us that a
person who at first glance has no relation to us and is truly distant can
become a neighbor.
