I believe that sounds can affect humans in different ways. When you are tired, you can listen to something relaxing: music or sounds of rain. And when you are concentrated and minding your own business some noises may distract or intimidate you, for example, thuds when all of a sudden a heavy object falls onto a carpeted floor, clatter, when something metal falls onto a concrete floor. It can be very terrifying, indeed. I personally don't like these sounds: rumbles, crashes, bangs, because they can frighten me to death. I prefer quiet and gentle sounds, they make me feel calm and comfortable. When I want to study at home, I listen to music. When I am nervous, I prefer to listen to the sounds of waves and dream that I am at sea. I think that some sounds are always terrifying, and some are always nice to hear. But there are also some sounds, such as dog barking, which can be either cute, or terrible. And that depends on the listener and his mood, and on the dog and its barking.
3,5 ------------------------- 1. I have two friends, one of them, Andy, is a fan of different TYPES OF LIGHTS. 2. And he has a torch, and he absolutely loves its BEAM of light. 3. He made me a gift, it was a diamond ring and it SPARKLES very beautifully and it matches with my golden chain, which GLITTERS. 4. I decided to make him a present too, so I bought a candle, so he could enjoy watching it FLICKER in the breeze. 5. Andy was happy, that day the sun SHONE and gave out RAYS of light, and at night stars TWINKLED. 6. My second friend called Teddy loves sounds: RINGS, RUMBLES, RUSTLES, THUDS, HISSES, CLATTERS and BANGS. 6. I wonder how he can listen to the CRASH sound and even enjoy it. 7. Teddy and Andy always wear DARK and GLOOMY clothes, and so do I, probably that's why we are friends.

Sound in ads is like a secret weapon. It's not just background noise – it directly targets our feelings. A happy tune can make you feel good, and that feeling gets linked to the product. This emotional connection makes ads stick in your memory much better.
The best examples are those super catchy jingles and sound logos. Everyone knows the McDonald's "I'm Lovin' It" with the melody in the end (in Russian “Вот, что я люблю») or the Netflix "ta-dum" sound. This is a modern, brilliant sound logo. In less than two seconds, it signals that you're about to be entertained. These short sounds are genius because they act like an audio business card. You hear just a few notes, and you instantly know the brand, without even seeing a picture. This builds familiarity and trust, which makes you more likely to choose that brand later. So, sound basically helps companies get into our heads and influence what we buy.

| ThePsychology of Sound: How can different sounds affect human emotions, behavior, and cognition? Discuss the impact of music, environmental sounds, and white noise on mental well-being. Different sounds definitely affect human emotions. We can especially feel this when it comes to sharp, unpleasant sounds. The noise of the traffic, racket upstairs at the time of late night, a sudden clatter, screeching cars etc. can certainly irritate us, can increase our discomfort and anxiety. And, of course, it is directly connected with our emotional state. We become nervous, quick to anger, lose our temper easily, start feeling broken and depressed. It is very hard to focus on something when you are always disturbed by sudden sharp sounds, so noise can slow your work down. I think, everyone has ever found themselves working and being distracted by some extraneous noises or trying to fall asleep, while there is so much noise around. As a person living near the highway, I experienced it very well when we moved our house. But I can also say, the noise of highway is easy for getting used to because of its homogeneity and monotony. Over time, this rumble begins to resemble the sound of sea. But I’m still irritated by sounds of roaring cars picking up speed, because they are sudden and very sharp.
Of course, along with irritating sounds, there are also those that, by contrast, are relaxing. Such sounds as rustle, hiss, environmental sounds, like sound of the sea or rain can make us calmer and even help to fall asleep. Some people, for example, say, they fall asleep better listening to white noise. But personally, I can’t share this pleasure, and white noise sounds for me quite irritating for some reason.
So, as it seems, the effect of sounds on the emotional state depends not only on the sounds but also on people and their personal perception of these sounds and their sensitivity to sounds in general.

| Soundscapes of Different Cultures: Sound plays a pivotal role in ritual ceremonies, serving as a medium through which cultures express spirituality, commemorate significant events, and connect with the divine. The intricate relationship between sound and ritual not only highlights the importance of auditory elements but also reveals the underlying technologies of sound that have evolved over millennia. Throughout history, ancient civilizations have harnessed sound to enhance the profundity of their rituals, utilizing various instruments and techniques to create immersive soundscapes. These practices underscore the significance of sound in ritual ceremonies, offering insights into human behavior, emotional responses, and cultural expressions. Cultural soundscapes vary dramatically, from West Africa's vibrant polyrhythmic tapestry where complex, interlocking drumbeats foster collective communication and social participation, to Japan's meditative soundscape where the aesthetic of silence gives equal weight to the space between sounds—like the breathy tones of a shakuhachi or a temple bell's resonance—creating an atmosphere of deep contemplation.

| I'd like to discuss the role of sound design in movies and TV shows. A soundtrack or score is different from sound design, which includes more than the accompanying music. The power of sound effects ranges from making the cries sound believable to adding the shuffle of leaves to a raining scene.
Human beings are creatures that rely on their senses the most to understand the world around them. SOUNDS can be powerful and evocative. Some cinematographers would argue that no scene is complete before a sound engineer has taken a good look at it.
I believe the reason for that is that sound adds dimension. Most of the time the audience is not even aware that their perception is being crafted not only through the images they see on the screen but also through the accompanying SOUND. The CLANGING and CLATTERING as heard in the kitchen of My Terrible Nanny is easily distinguishable from the ROARING of water and THUDDING of bodies in Murderer Ahoy.
The choice of relaxing or annoying sounds made by the director of the film contributes to how the characters making those NOISES will be perceived, whether they'll be liked or not. Even if we do not necessarily think of sound effects when we describe our favourite films, we'd definitely notice were they missing from the movie or series.

| Good sound design in films is crucial, but often unnoticed. The specific sounds you hear make a scene feel real. For instance, the CLATTER of swords in a fight or the HISS of steam in a factory add important details and improve the atmosphere. These sounds also guide our emotions. A sudden THUD can create a shock, while the continuous RUMBLE of thunder builds tension. So I think, the choice of sounds tells us how to feel about a character or a situation without using any words. Christopher Nolan's Oppenheimer demonstrates that the strategic ABSENCE of sound can be even more powerful. The film's depiction of the Trinity atomic bomb test is a masterclass in this technique, where a prolonged silence during the detonation creates one of cinema's most emotionally devastating moments. In the scene, as the countdown reaches zero, we see a monumental fireball erupt in complete silence. And this choice breaks a fundamental expectation. I find this scene the most unforgettable, it left a powerful impact on me.

| Sound in Film and Media: Discuss the role of sound design in movies, TV shows, and video games. Explore how sound contributes to storytelling, mood, and audience engagement.
I am sure that the role of sound design in movies and TV shows is huge nowadays. Sound designers can create a whole story using only different sounds and noises: BANG of a door, CHIME of a public clock, RUSTLE of a dry leaves. Everyone knows what SCREECH of a car means, for example. There is no need to explain what happens on the screen. Sounds are very important in movies. Many movies are famous for their sound design. For instance, "Quiet Place", "The Zone Of Interest", "Interstellar". In my opinion, sounds contribute a lot to storytelling, mood, and audience engagement. They activate hearing. Every sound should work and engage the audience, adding something to the story. When we watch a Marvel blockbuster, we expect ROARING, CRASHING and a lot of sounds of battle. When watching a documentary about nature, we can't be surprised by the PATTERING of rain or the singing of birds. Each sound has a purpose. TV shows and video games also use sound to attract the attention of the audience and keep people watching and playing games for as long as possible. Virtual reality is based on our senses: hearing, touch, smell. Many people have a strong connection between the sound of the computer and positive emotions. Sound designers know very well how strongly our minds are connected to feelings and they use this knowledge.

| Are you afraid of darkness or do you feel comfortable in the dark? Why do you think this is so?
I like darkness and, to be honest, I have never thought why. When I was a child I used to visit my great grandmother in the summer. She lived in a village and I remember how I was lying outside watching stars at night. For some reason, the sky is so much cleaner in the countryside, so, you can see the SHINING moon and a firmament full of TWINKLING stars. It was magnificent! I also sometimes wake up before dawn, go to the window and feast my eye on the view. There are no people and cars in the street yet, it's so calm and peaceful. And then the first BEAM of light appears and then the red sun. After that the clouds become painted in different colors. I see the sunset every day, but I rarely see the sunrise. I like it so much, there is kind of a mystery, as if I am watching the birth of a new day! I also like to read in a DIM light, although it's not good for my eyes, I feel more comfortable, relaxed and concentrated, I don't know why. In Moscow the sun rises very early in the summer, and I miss the DARK of night, which is necessary for having a good sleep.

| I'm not afraid of THE DARK. I feel comfortable in the DARK because it makes me notice every SOUND around me. Sometimes I hear a rumble outside, and it's more exciting than scary. When lightning FLASHES, everything suddenly lights up, and the RAYS of light make the dark world look amazing. I like that the DARKNESS helps me focus on small details that I don't notice during the day.
