| Write an essay on one of the issues from Unit 42 Belief and opinion forum. (Use a different topic from the one you used in that forum.) Present your argument using as many words from Unit 68 as possible. Highlight linking words you use IN CAPITALS or in bold type. You may use some of the following statements as a starting point:
Moratorium on capital punishment should be suspended. Capital punishment should be used more extensively, for only fear of death as the strongest instinct can be effective in preventing serious crimes.
Women's rights in the labour market must be protected by law. All discrimination against women in the labour market must be prohibited by law. Quotas for employment of women should be established for all jobs.

| All medical experiments on animals must be stopped.
The following point will be covered in this essay: Should all medical experiments on animals be stopped?
It is estimated that about 100-150 million animals die from experiments every year in the world. Experiments are conducted at universities, medical schools, pharmaceutical companies, farms, defense enterprises and commercial laboratories.
There are two opinions on this issue. The dominant point of view today is the need for experiments for the sake of scientific progress, provided that the suffering of animals has been minimized (as well as the number of laboratory animals in general). Firstly, this is argued that, for the sake of saving people's lives, it is permissible to kill animals. Secondly, proponents of the use of animals in experiments claim that almost all the achievements in medicine of the XX century in some way depended on animal experiments. They claim that animal experiments cannot be replaced even by complex computer models that are not able to simulate extremely complex interactions of molecules, cells, organs, etc.
Turning to another point of view, which is based on the argument that animals have moral rights, and their lives are priceless... For example, people do not have rights to animals and therefore it is unacceptable to use the latter for their own purposes that do not benefit the animals themselves. Also, such people question the necessity and legality of animal experiments, arguing that they are cruel and poorly regulated, that medical progress is actually delayed due to various processes in animals that cannot reliably predict similar effects in humans.
I can't say exactly which point of view I finally support. But it seems to me that humanity can now afford to stop using animals for medical purposes and not only.

| Immigration
Having been thinking about the topic I have finally decided to write about immigration. However, to make the subject more relevant, at my own risk, I changed it to “emigration”, one issue that has caused a lot of controversy over last three weeks.
The topic is ambiguous, and I personally have not yet determined my own position that might be considered clear. Leaving aside my hesitation, let’s look at the issue from the new reality of today. Due to political situation in the country, people are leaving Russia. There are at least two reasons to what was stated earlier. Firstly, people are scared, and actually, that is understandable. For instance, according to some specialists, the economy of our country has been damaged terribly, so it will take years to restore it. Today’s emigration can be explained psychologically: people always want the best for themselves. However, unfortunately, if they are looking for better life, emigration is not the way out at all for, at least, the problem of economic crisis has already become worldwide. What is more, leaving the country, people lose not only their homes, friends, relatives, but status, work and, in parenthesis, money. Finally, they find themselves in a strange country, where mostly they are not needed and, apart from that, are not “loved” and “admired” by the natives, and that's what we can face now. Turning to the second main reason of emigration, I would name oppositionists, dissidents, or liberally-minded people who can’t endorse the actions of the government. Sometimes emigration can be the only possible way to not be imprisoned in their country.
The issue of emigration isn’t confined to problems mentioned above. Often an immigrant can be disliked by both people from the countries they move to and people of their homeland, for sometimes such relocations can be considered as betrayal.

LEAVING ASIDE the refusal to overthrow traditions, we will mention another specificity of this movement that derives from the principle of mixing high and low. FOR INSTANCE, this principle is shown in the transformation of "Kitsch" production into an artistic method.
TO SUM UP, postmodernism in art is, SO TO SPEAK, a “fusion” of various methods and ideas, AS WAS STATED EARLIER. The main ones are borrowing, irony and the freedom of expression. Personally, I find this movement astonishing and compelling.

| Freedom of speech
Freedom of speech is a very controversial concept nowadays, in our country especially. There is freedom of speech in Russia, but this does not give you a guarantee of safety. Perhaps today you will express your thoughts or your opinion about the government, and tomorrow you will be taken into custody. Such is the truth of our time.
But such freedom still has its limits. Although it is possible that if people had complete freedom of speech, chaos would begin, nobody knows. But it means that this concept cannot be called complete freedom.
Anyone who demands freedom of speech for himself should be willing to listen to criticism in his address. In my opinion, there is no safe freedom of speech in our country, I do not know whether it is good or bad. Well, chaos is always present.

| Sensitive topics that might hurt some individuals should be avoided in university lecture halls
To begin with, in my opinion, each of us should try to be delicate and kind with people who surround us. Next, while conversing with other people we should choose words and expressions carefully. Words can either hurt or heal, they are of great value and mighty. We shouldn’t talk on such topics that can bring smart to others, especially when a person has to listen to the interlocutor. That might happen in lecture halls, when students just have to listen and memorize information given by the lecturer. At least, the data should be well prepared, so it would not confront with morality and world views of the students. In conclusion, a person is created free, he or she individually chooses how to live life, so we must not impair the value of that gift.

FIRSTLY, a person being a child wants to explore the whole world. SECONDLY, a person becomes a teenager. THIRDLY, there is a season of maturity, he or she is getting more duties.

| Social inequality
Turning to the problem of social inequality, it exists even before the formation of society itself. Inequality initially appeared between the elders and the younger. But if the logic of superiority in seniority is clear, and no one will argue with the fact that the child is far from the adult in the intellectual and physical ways, then what can be said about social inequality in society in our time?
Of course, no one will argue with the fact that social inequality exists now. It means that some people have things that others don't. But what can be done about this problem? After all, those who have a lot of money, expensive property, etc. earned it with their hard work. In this case, people who have achieved heights should give money to those who work little or do not want to develop. Of course, such logic will not force anyone to share anything. From the course of history, we know that it is impossible to build a society where everyone would be equal and have the same rights. If you are seriously ill, you will face restrictions in free medicine, if you have crossed the line of the law, then a lawyer from the state will work worse than a privately hired one. The list of imperfections in modern society is endless. And, to sum up, I doubt that this can be fixed somehow.

I personally believe that some sensitive topics that might hurt someone should be avoided in university lecture halls. I mean the topics of racism, war, violence or religious questions.
Firstly, I suppose that these themes are too personal to express one's opinion on it aloud in class or ask students' opinion. Of course these themes must be discussed because of its importance and significance, but, as it were, in a more trusting atmosphere, and without any force to hold discussion.
Secondly, as far as the process of studying in university presupposes receiving knowledge, not personal opinion of a lecturer, these sensitive themes are not suitable for lecture classes. In other words, these themes are too subjective, so there's no truth in one's view on the issue. So the lecturer expressing his or her opinion might seem wrong from the point of view of some students and then lose credibility in their eyes.
In summary, I should say that I believe that sensitive topics should be discussed out of university lecture halls.
