Do you read for plot, characters, or style?

I think, it depends on the specific case. In the past I used to think that if I didn't like the PLOT of a book within the first ten pages, or maximum thirty, then it wasn't worth reading it till the end. I think, the majority of readers prefer books with engaging plots. It's an exciting feeling when you don't want to put down a book because you're eager to find out what happens next, but unfortunately, you have to put it down and go to school or go to bed because you have to wake up early in the morning. However, over time, I began to appreciate books with less dynamic plots, precisely for the peace they bring me, for the beautiful language and the cozy atmosphere. Sometimes you get so used to some CHARACTERS that it's sad when the book ends.
I don't think I've ever read for the style, but I like the grandiloquent language that we only find in books nowadays, and it's very rare for people to speak like that in real life, so, sometimes I read for the vocabulary the author uses.

What do you like most: art, literature, music, or cinema, and why?

For some reason, I'm convinced that you need to study a lot to truly understand ART. Although millions of amateurs visit art galleries, I'm not sure if they do it because they can appreciate masterpieces or simply because the names of the WORKS OF ART they're looking at are well-known. To be honest, I don't understand ARCHITECTURE or SCULPTURE, so, I'm not an ART LOVER.
Literature is beautiful, books give us the opportunity to travel through space and time without getting up from the couch. Books pass on the experience of generations, in the masterpieces of world literature there are countless wise and witty quotes. Every time I reread "The Master and Margarita" I stop my gaze on some line I like and think: "How accurately noted!" But there is one difficulty with literature: reading takes time, especially attentive reading, it is also a work, and books need to be translated to make them more accessible. When translating a text for people with a different culture and mindset, it can be difficult not to distort the author's message.
I watch movies purely for pleasure, without understanding them as an art or a technical process. However, sometimes certain actors are not suitable for the roles they are playing, causing cognitive dissonance and making it difficult for me to match the character's personality with the actor's appearance. In such cases, I either have to endure it or find another movie. Sometimes, after an hour and a half, I realize that I have wasted my time watching the movie. On the other hand, there are times when I don't expect much from a movie, but it turns out to be exceptional! This is the downside of movies: as with literature, it's difficult to predict whether something interesting will happen if the first half-hour of the movie was not interesting.
Of all the options my heart belongs to music. There is a wide variety of music to suit every taste and mood. As my music teacher used to say, music is a universal language of communication that can convey emotions without words.

What is your favourite performing art? Why?

My favourite RERFORMING ART is ballet. I did ballet for about seven years as a child. Now, I mostly watch ballet performances in theatre or on the Internet. I would like to practice ballet again sometime in the future. My mom is also a great ballet fan. She even wrote a course paper about it, so I think that I inherited this love from her. Ballet is a unity of music and dance, and what I love especially is that I can understand everything without a single word. This performing art is very demanding but beautiful. I admire ballerinas and dancers because they have a lot of physical and mental strength to perform ballet for a long time. It is both work and ART. Because of ballet, I understand that if you want to achieve something great, you need to work hard. This art has even enriched my understanding of literature. After seeing ballets like "Romeo and Juliet", "The Winter's Tale", "The Seagull" and "Master and Margarita" I gained a completely new perspective on these stories.

1. Fyodor Shekhtel is a great Russian ARCHITECT. 2. He DESIGHNED A LOT OF BUILDINGS in different Russian cities. 3. For example, he desighned the eldest cinema in Moscow - Khudozhestvenny Cinema, which is a WORK OF ART. 3. As a LOVER of both CINEMA and ARCHITECTURE, I really admire his work

Name an artist whose works you find particularly impressive.

One of the artists I find truly impressive is John Kenn Mortensen, a contemporary Danish illustrator. His drawings, usually made on small yellow Post-it notes, show mysterious monsters and dark creatures surrounding ordinary people or children. What fascinates me most is that his monsters don’t look purely evil — they seem to reflect human fears, sadness, and imagination. There is something poetic and melancholic in his work that makes me stop and think every time I see one of his drawings.

Another artist whose paintings deeply inspire me is Hieronymus Bosch, especially his masterpiece "The Garden of Earthly Delights". I am amazed by the fantastic and surreal worlds he created centuries ago — full of strange beings, symbolic details, and moral reflections.

Both Bosch and Mortensen show that even darkness can be beautiful in art. Their works remind me that imagination has no limits and that the line between dream and nightmare is often very thin.

What do you like most: art, literature, music, or cinema, and why?

Among art, literature, music, and cinema, I love music the most. Especially songs. Since childhood, I have always listened to music with deep emotion and admiration. It has had a strong influence on me and still does. To me, music — and songs in particular — are the true cry of the soul. It is amazing how people can express such a wide range of feelings and emotions through a combination of harmonious sounds.

When I listen to my favourite songs, I feel as if they dissolve me completely. My heart begins to beat in rhythm with the melody, and the world around me seems to fade away. Music gives me comfort, inspiration, and strength. It speaks a universal language that everyone can understand, no matter what words are used.

That is why I believe that music is the most powerful and beautiful form of art. It touches the heart directly and makes life brighter.

What is yourfavourite performing art? Why?

I think, theatre and
cinema are my favourite performing arts. To be honest, I don’t think I have a great
awareness level in this area, but I can say for sure I was always impressed by
directors as a sort of artists. In my opinion, cinema and theatre are really
special arts, because they comprise all kinds of arts at the same time: text,
visual part and sounds and music. Every film or play is not only a plot – it is
a composition. And every director should make this composition to embody their
author’s intention and bring this idea to the spectator. Moreover, cinema (I can’t
say for sure about theatre) can embody harmoniously every sort of literature
text, be it a drama, a short story or a novel. As for theatre, there are a lot
of other stage nuances which provide this art with a special charm. As in all
arts, I appreciate there interesting director’s decisions and means of
expression used by author. I think, making films and putting plays is very difficult
and not many people, let use be honest, cope with this task well. That’s why I really admire (good) directors, as I said.

Do you read more popular or more literary authors for pleasure?
For pleasure I definitely read more popular authors rather than literary ones. I love reading exciting novels with fast-paced plots and interesting characters. I often choose bestsellers because they are easy and fun to read. I am not a big fan of very serious literary books, although I respect the critics who praise them. For me, reading is an escape, so I prefer a good story from a popular writer. I usually buy hard copies, not ebooks, because I love the feeling of a real book.

I fancy myself quite an art lover. I believe partaking in anything artistic is a form of expressing appreciation of life itself, as any work of art is at its core the untamed life force represented artistically, seen through the eyes of a unique artist. All art is proof of how great God's works are, assuming that all creativity is inspired by the Holy Spirit. This makes it hard to pick one favourite among present-day art forms. Be it a written word, a statue, a film or a masterfully crafted pot, man-made things that have their main purpose in pleasing our aesthetic sense, all remind me of how extraordinary humans are and what a gift it is to be able to be in the presence of art and enjoy it with all of our senses.

If I had to pick one, I'd choose cinema. The art of cinema might be the easiest to enjoy. Moving pictures are a relatively new ART FORM that encompasses almost all others. The soundtrack, the dialogue, the costumes and the decorations, coupled with skillful actors conveying the whole range of human emotions, bring the wildest fairy tales one can imagine to the screen for anyone to enjoy. Cinema is a visual art form, yet it influences all of our senses at the same time. Personally, I know many people whose lives have been changed after they have left the movie theatre. Moreover, on the movie set we can find a SCULPTOR, a PORTER, a trained ARCHITECT, a NOVELIST and a CRITIC all working together on the piece.

To sum up, I like cinema the most because it is the art where artists of all types come together to create the ultimate fantasy that influences all of the senses of the VIEWER all at once.

С уважением, Онищенко Ксения

Have you done any of the arts or crafts as a hobby? If yes, have you displayed your works? Where can they be seen? If possible, post photos of your own artworks in this forum.

Yes, I am actively involved in several arts and crafts as personal hobbies. My main creative outlets are writing poetry, drawing frequently, and making various handmade crafts. I want to emphasize that I do all of this on a purely amateur level,it's not incredible or professional work. However, I strongly believe that this personal creation is also a valid and meaningful form of art.
The primary purpose for me is the enjoyment and calm I get from the creative process itself.
I have a general rule of not showing my works to others. This is because I engage in these activities almost entirely for myself.
They serve as a form of personal meditation and a way to process my thoughts and emotions. Since my goal isn't public recognition, my poems remain in private notebooks, my drawings fill sketchpads at home, and my crafts decorate my personal space, I have never actively displayed them on social media or in any physical galleries.
Conducting craft masterclasses for children is a common activity for me. We work on projects like making New Year's masks, scented candles, herb sachets, and painting T-shirts.
I have results from recent classes that I can show. I took pictures of the crafts the kids made.

What do you like most: art, literature, music, or cinema, and why?

It is hard for me to choose one particular thing because I feel different from time to time, but a listened to music my whole life and I think I would choose it as a favourite. The good thing about music is the multitude of genres - from classical to rock.  For me music is the most accessible kind of art for two reasons: it is mostly free and it is convenient to listen to anywhere. I like concerts a lot, because it is fun and gives me some energy. I also appreciate paintings and novels with strong characters, such as "For whom the bell rings", but for me music is special. I've spent more then 40.000 minutes listening to music this year, so it seems to be very important for me.

If I had to choose, I would pick music and cinema. Music is my love, I don’t joke. I listen to many styles, from symphonic orchestras to any form of jazz. And my favourite group is playing indi-folk music. Their powerful sound is amazing, and I not mention their strong lyrics. Cinema is my second love because it combines all the arts. A great film is like visual music. It tells a story with moving pictures, sounds, and of course, a fantastic soundtrack. Together, they create a complete and powerful piece of art.

2.       Are you an artistic person? If yes,how is it manifested?
Yes, I would say I’m an artistic person. I have always loved the arts, especially music and performing. When I was a schoolboy, I sang in a group and also took theatre classes, so I got used to performing on a stage. I really enjoy expressing myself through singing and acting, and I think that’s one of the ways my artistic side is manifested. Being on stage taught me to be confident and to pay attention to details like the SETTING and the way IMAGES are created for the audience.

13. What do you like most: art, literature, music, or cinema, and why?Among all forms of art, I like music the most. Music helps me release stress and feel better when I’m upset. I can listen to a song and completely forget about my worries for a while. I also enjoy discovering original pieces and even some ABSTRACT music that makes me think differently.I consider myself an ART LOVER, and every now and then I read critics to understand other people’s opinions about music or performances. But in the end, what matters most to me is how the music or performance makes me feel.
