Stars are said to be created "for signs" (v. 14). Can you think of an example?
St. Basil the Great and St. John Chrysostom write that “signs” don’t relate to the astrology that tries to predict what will happen with a person in his/her life. The signs warn us about rains, winds, bad weather or drought. God created so according to His love to people, His mercifulness so that men who go on a voyage can escape danger or so that people who grow crops may take necessary measures. For example, if the Moon is thin and clear, it predicts rainless weather. Whereas if the Moon is with thick horns and red, it means that it’s going to be a heavy shower or a strong wind from the South.
Naturally, now we don’t use these tips from God because we have a forecast. But if we were attentive to them, probably, we would know the coming weather more precisely.
