Let others mock at you, oppose you, when you are under the influence of any passion; do not be in the least offended with those who mock at or oppose you, for they do you good; crucify your self-love and acknowledge the wrong, the error of your heart.

I think that righteous John of Kronstadt is right, because when we let others mock at our sins, we become more humble. Moreover we often don’t want to see own passions, and others can point at them showing that we are not perfect at all. I think that we often appreciate ourselves much more than we are in reality, but other people can help us to look at ourselves soberly.

The words of Righteous John, Wonderworker of Kronstadt are beautiful and true. They remind us of the state of absolute humility which each Christian should attain. The second great commandment given by Christ is to love our neighbours as ourselves. You can only love others if you have crucified your ego, and, as righteous John says, have acknowledged "the error of your heart”. It is incredibly difficult not to allow passion, pride, self-love to get on top of you. And it seems it can be avoided only by achieving supreme humbleness.

I agree with this quote by John of Kronstadt.
Such situations sober us up in moments of passion and infatuation with sin. This will allow you to see things more clearly and understand yourself better. This experience gives us the opportunity to learn and grow, and not to be defensive or angry.
It is important to remember that every mistake or failure is an opportunity to improve and find your weaknesses in the spiritual plan. Be grateful to those who are ready to challenge you and help you become better. With humility and willingness to learn from your mistakes, you will be able to overcome sinful impulses.

Often, when we are in an ordinary state and nothing disturbs us, we tend to slip into a dangerous thought that we live quite a proper life and are good and righteous enough. From this thought a great delusion begins.

Some priests say that the time of temptations is the time of studying learning and growth. It's like a final test at school: here you find your true spiritual state. That means that when something or someone bothers us or in any way makes us feel uncomfortable, we may face our true selves, find our weaknesses and become better, fighting with passions.

So, we must be grateful for every odd and hardship despite even the unpleasant feelings, as here we get an opportunity for growth, developing and perfection.

I guess accepting mistakes and being able to laugh at them allows us to develop a healthy self-awareness. We realize that we all make mistakes and no one is perfect. It helps us not to take ourselves too seriously and accept our own shortcomings with humor. Mistakes are a valuable source of lessons and experience. When we accept our mistakes and are not offended, we can learn from them and use them for our growth and development. Instead of viewing a mistake as something shameful or offensive, we can view it as an opportunity for improvement.

I fully agree with Righteous John, Wonderworker of Kronstadt. I think it is of utmost importance to let others oppose you when you are under influence of any passion. It can be very difficult to acknowledge to yourself that you are doing something wrong because we want to see ourselves in the best light. And so, we fool ourselves into thinking that everything is fine and that we can’t be in the wrong because we are so great. We need this outside perspective of our behaviour because it is hard to stay objective when it comes to ourselves. That is why when someone - especially someone we trust and respect - tells us that we are doing something wrong, we shouldn’t disregard their words and instead we should at least look at ourselves and our behaviour closely.

This quote, which I fully agree with, encourages humility and self-reflection when facing criticism or opposition. In simpler words, it advises us not to be upset when others mock or oppose us when we are influenced by negative emotions. Instead, we should see their actions as an opportunity for personal growth and introspection.

The quote suggests that when others criticize or oppose us, it can serve as a reminder to examine ourselves and recognize the faults and errors within our own hearts. Rather than being defensive or offended, we should embrace their feedback as a means to crucify our self-centeredness and ego.

As we know Orthodox teachings emphasize the importance of humility and self-awareness. By accepting criticism and acknowledging our own shortcomings, we can cultivate a humble and contrite heart. This leads to personal transformation and spiritual growth.

I agree with Righteous John. When a man is under the influence of sin, his judgement of his own actions is flawed and distorted because a part of him is trying to justify his sinning. That is why in such a state it is crucial to receive help from others, even if it comes in the form of mocking and opposing. Those actions provoke a strong reaction that might reach your conscience when other, tamer methods fail.

It is also important to realize that you shouldn't be offended or brought down by this mocking. The reason for this is that God is sending all those mocking or opposing you with a goal of helping you see the error of your ways, even if those people themselves don't necessarily wish to help you.

The wisdom imparted by Righteous John, the Wonderworker of Kronstadt, in the given quote underscores the importance of self-reflection and humility. Throughout history and literature, we encounter numerous examples that support this notion. One prominent example from the Bible is the story of Peter's denial of Jesus. When Peter vehemently denied knowing Jesus three times, it was a moment of deep passion and fear. However, he later felt remorse and humility, which led to his spiritual growth. This instance teaches us that even the most ardent followers can succumb to their passions, and the experience of being opposed or corrected can be a catalyst for positive change.

Classic literature also delves into this theme. In Fyodor Dostoevsky's novel "Crime and Punishment," the protagonist, Raskolnikov, is initially driven by a passionate belief in his theory of the "extraordinary man" who can commit crimes without moral consequence. However, as he faces opposition, scrutiny, and the guilt of his actions, he undergoes a profound transformation. Through these trials and the crucible of self-examination, he comes to acknowledge the error of his heart, leading to his redemption and moral growth.

In conclusion, Righteous John's wisdom serves as a timeless reminder of the value of embracing criticism and opposition when our passions lead us astray. The Bible and classic literature offer powerful examples of individuals who, through the crucible of self-examination and humility, learned to acknowledge their wrongs and ultimately found spiritual and moral redemption. This quote serves as a profound guide for personal growth and the pursuit of righteousness.
