| 15 And Laban said unto Jacob, Because thou art my brother, shouldest thou therefore serve me for nought? tell me, what shall thy wages be?
16 And Laban had two daughters: the name of the elder was Leah, and the name of the younger was Rachel.
17 Leah was tender eyed; but Rachel was beautiful and well favoured.
18 And Jacob loved Rachel; and said, I will serve thee seven years for Rachel thy younger daughter.
19 And Laban said, It is better that I give her to thee, than that I should give her to another man: abide with me.
20 And Jacob served seven years for Rachel; and they seemed unto him but a few days, for the love he had to her.
21 And Jacob said unto Laban, Give me my wife, for my days are fulfilled, that I may go in unto her.
22 And Laban gathered together all the men of the place, and made a feast.
23 And it came to pass in the evening, that he took Leah his daughter, and brought her to him; and he went in unto her.
24 And Laban gave unto his daughter Leah Zilpah his maid for an handmaid.
25 And it came to pass, that in the morning, behold, it was Leah: and he said to Laban, What is this thou hast done unto me? did not I serve with thee for Rachel? wherefore then hast thou beguiled me?

| Rachel's beauty consisted, besides general beauty, in the special charm and brightness of her eyes - the main sign of a beautiful woman according to the Orientals. Мeanwhile, Leah, in other respects also, perhaps, beautiful, had an organic defect of her eyes: a disease, which, according to the Rabbis, came from Leah's constant weeping that she, as the eldest daughter of Laban, would have to marry the wicked Esau.
According to the Rabbis, Jacob, as if anticipating the deception of Laban, with particular accuracy names Rachel, the youngest daughter of Laban. He also expressed that as the youngest son of Rebekah, he should marry the youngest daughter of Laban.

| This passage reveals the theme of lies. Once Jacob, with his mother, tricked Isaac and took away from Esau his blessing. The same way it returns to Jacob later: he served Laban for getting beautiful Rachel but got tender-eyed Leah instead. I think the moral of it is obvious: if you deceive somebody, be ready to be deceived back.

| Seven years of hard work to get married doesn't seem so bad, but it's difficult to imagine what it would be like to work next to the person you love for seven years. However, we see Jacob's loyalty in this story. He is true to his values and promises, and seven years pass for him like a few days. But the ending is tragic and surprising in its betrayal. Instead of the beloved, Laban deceived Jacob with Leah. Here we see how the story of deception repeats itself and Jacob's vengeance comes.

| I am curious about how Jacob did not realize that he had Rachel's sister instead of Rachel as his wife. In my opinion, there are several possible explanations for this. First, I believe he was drunk and did not have the ability to notice that another woman was in his bed. Additionally, I think this could be a case of God's providence. Sometimes, we desire something more ''fancy'' or pretty (as Rachel was compared to Leah), but in reality, we need something different to be truly happy. Perhaps this was the case with Jacob and Leah. Still, it remains a mystery to me.
