1 Then Jacob went on his journey, and came into the land of the people of the east.

2 And he looked, and behold a well in the field, and, lo, there were three flocks of sheep lying by it; for out of that well they watered the flocks: and a great stone was upon the well's mouth.

3 And thither were all the flocks gathered: and they rolled the stone from the well's mouth, and watered the sheep, and put the stone again upon the well's mouth in his place.

4 And Jacob said unto them, My brethren, whence be ye? And they said, Of Haran ['haran] are we.

5 And he said unto them, Know ye Laban ['leibən] the son of Nahor ['neiho:r]? And they said, We know him.

6 And he said unto them, Is he well? And they said, He is well: and, behold, Rachel his daughter cometh with the sheep.

7 And he said, Lo, it is yet high day, neither is it time that the cattle should be gathered together: water ye the sheep, and go and feed them.

8 And they said, We cannot, until all the flocks be gathered together, and till they roll the stone from the well's mouth; then we water the sheep.

9 And while he yet spake with them, Rachel came with her father's sheep: for she kept them.

10 And it came to pass, when Jacob saw Rachel the daughter of Laban his mother's brother, and the sheep of Laban his mother's brother, that Jacob went near, and rolled the stone from the well's mouth, and watered the flock of Laban his mother's brother.

11 And Jacob kissed Rachel, and lifted up his voice, and wept.

12 And Jacob told Rachel that he was her father's brother, and that he was Rebekah's son: and she ran and told her father.

13 And it came to pass, when Laban heard the tidings of Jacob his sister's son, that he ran to meet him, and embraced him, and kissed him, and brought him to his house. And he told Laban all these things.

14 And Laban said to him, Surely thou art my bone and my flesh. And he abode with him the space of a month.

This is the part where Jacob meets Rachel, he meets her while she is shepherding her cattle. The fact that she was a shepherdess was not humiliating, for in the ancient and new East shepherding was a common occupation, suitable for the unmarried daughters of even noblemen.

The impression of meeting his relative gives Jacob a lift to his spirits, and he, wishing to please Rachel and Laban (Jacob's relation to the latter is deliberately exposed here - in the threefold designation of Laban as Jacob's uncle), performs the difficult labour of lifting a stone from the wellhead. After kissing Rachel, Jacob weeps. According to Jewish interpretations, he wept either because he had a premonition of Rachel's early death on their first date, or because of embarrassment. It is also possible that he wept because of the joy of meeting her, after the trials of the journey.

In these lines we see how Jacob finally finds his mother's relatives. The aim of his trip was to find Laban and a good wife among his daughters. It is important that Jacob found Rachel right after his encounter with God and the revelation. And only after he has placed the stone in his pillar in the image of the Lord, only then has he reached the aim of his journey and kissed Rachel.

In this passage, we can see how Jacob meets Rachel right after God has blessed him. Jacob takes everything into his own hands like a manHe takes matters into his own hands by helping to move the stone and water the sheep, which is a beautiful but insignificant detail. This shows how Jacob is a man who takes responsibility and cares for others, both metaphorically and physically.

Also in this passage, we see the power of family bonds, as we see the love and support that relatives show for each other when they first meet.

This passage also reminds me of the resurrection of our God Christ the Savior. Just as Jacob rolled the stone away to water the sheep, Christ was persecuted in order to open the door to the Heavenly Kingdom for us. I find this passage to be very powerful in its meaning and very "calming" in its emotional impact.
