| 1 Then again Abraham took a wife, and her name was Keturah.
2 And she bare him Zimran, and Jokshan, and Medan, and Midian, and Ishbak, and Shuah.
3 And Jokshan begat Sheba, and Dedan. And the sons of Dedan were Asshurim, and Letushim, and Leummim.
4 And the sons of Midian; Ephah, and Epher, and Hanoch, and Abida, and Eldaah. All these were the children of Keturah.
5 And Abraham gave all that he had unto Isaac.
6 But unto the sons of the concubines, which Abraham had, Abraham gave gifts, and sent them away from Isaac his son, while he yet lived, eastward, unto the east country.
7 And these are the days of the years of Abraham's life which he lived, an hundred threescore and fifteen years.
8 Then Abraham gave up the ghost, and died in a good old age, an old man, and full of years; and was gathered to his people.
9 And his sons Isaac and Ishmael buried him in the cave of Machpelah, in the field of Ephron the son of Zohar the Hittite, which is before Mamre;
10 The field which Abraham purchased of the sons of Heth: there was Abraham buried, and Sarah his wife.
11 And it came to pass after the death of Abraham, that God blessed his son Isaac; and Isaac dwelt by the well Lahairoi.

| I think verse 8 is really important in this abstract. In those days, people didn't have many good medicines and it was hard to stay healthy and not die from a simple fever. However, Abraham lived to a "good old age", which shows that God protected him from serious illnesses and death.

| In this passage, it's interesting how Abraham obviously cares a lot about Isaac, his successor, and doesn't really care about his other kids from another wife. The reality of life in The Old Testament is so: if you are not a successor, you get almost nothing; in the case of Keturah's kids, they were sent to the east country with some "gifts".

| According to Lopukhin, the six sons of Hittura and Abraham (25:2) were the ancestors of a whole race of new nomadic tribes of Arabia; but the names of these tribes, with the exception only of the Midianites, have remained almost unknown in later Biblical history.
Abraham acts wisely - he does not leave the children of his concubines without provision; but at the same time he removes them from Isaac, showing in advance by this that they have no part in the estate of the rightful heir.

| From the first verses of the passage, we learn that Abraham had another wife, Hettura, who bore him six sons. We also learn that he sent away the sons of his concubine.
It is hard to reconcile with modern Christian beliefs about a righteous life. However, the commentaries on this topic are not clear. They leave us confused.Then I look at the verse where Abraham gives everything he has to Isaac. This verse suggests the importance of distinguishing between what is essential and what is not important.
