| Much effort and labour is needed for a man to be changed to the good tree that brings forth good fruit. Strive, then, for nothing else, but to change , renew, and correct yourself. And pray for this... This is the quote of St. Tikhon of Zadonsk. I absolutely agree with it, and I would like to express my view on this topic.
In the Holy Scripture we can see many examples of people changing their lifestyle from bad to perfect. Such as Mary from Magdala, apostle Paul and many others. I'm sure they changed with much efforts, because for example, for apostle Paul it was very difficult to become Christian, as the Jewish lifestyle is fundamentally different from the Christian lifestyle. So, I think it was not quite easy for him to be changed. The same was with Mary from Magdala. She was really rich. There is an opinion that she was a harlot. They say that this passion is very strong and people usually need to make efforts to cope with it.
I believe all these examples are given to people, so that they could do the same. So that they made efforts to change their lifestyle, but the problem is that modern people are waiting for the miracle to happen and don't want to make efforts.

| St. Tikhon of Zadonsk claims that one should strive and labour in order to be changed. Indeed, even if a person is converted to Orthodoxy, if he/she is baptised and receives the Holy Communion, with true repentance and strong willing to correct his/her behaviour, even then he/she will hardly become a saint at once. Even if we realise our wickedness with all our heart, we will later continue following our passions, just because our nature is fallen.
However, Christians have the Holy Scripture and the lives of the saints, and from these sources we know that it is our effort, fasting and prayer that is needed in order to be changed and saved. Of course, without God’s help we won’t succeed, that’s why we should ask the Lord to help us in our endeavours, for “Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you” (Mth. 7:7).
Following St. Tikhon’s appeal, let us do everything that is possible for us and hope that God will do everything that is impossible so that we may repent and change our hearts.

| I go along with the thoughts of Saint Tikhon of Zadonsk. It's pretty obvious even from the example of fruit that in order to grow a good and fruitful tree, one should work hard. The same applies to making a change. It is a real labour and all Christians should be ready for it. It's only within God's powers to grant us His Divine Grace so that we may accomplish everything we need to.

| I agree with St. Tikhon of Zadonsk. Personal transformation requiressignificant effort and dedication. To become the “good tree” that bears good fruit, we must actively work on changing and renewing ourselves. This process is not passive;it demands self-reflection, discipline, and a commitment to growth. By focusing on our own improvement ratherthan comparing ourselves to others, we cultivate a deeper relationship with God and a more virtuous character. Prayer is essential in this journey, as it connects us to divine guidance and strength. Ultimately, striving for personal change leads to a more meaningful and fruitful life. Like our late lecturer used to say, no pain - no gain.

| It is impossible to disagree with this quote from St. Tikhon. In fact, it emphasises a message that I write about in almost every essay. Only human desire and endless striving to reach God with our whole soul can bring us closer to salvation. All attempts to achieve this without an all-encompassing love for Christ - will bear no fruit.
If changing oneself, overcoming sins brings a person a great deal of suffering, he should find his comfort in communication with God through prayer, and reading God's word - the Gospel. Only in this case we will be able to overcome our sins and distance ourselves from earthly passions that occupy a huge part of our life.

| I suppose that we can characterize our whole life with the following words by St. Tikhon of Zadonsk: "Strive, then, for nothing else but to change, renew, and correct yourself". Our whole life is the way, where we can go higher to the sky or down to hell, standing on the same place for a long time wouldn't help us to become closer to God. And that's why we should change and renew, to find new ways to go higher. Obviously, it's hard.
However, everywhere around us we can observe the great examples of how people have changed. The first one that came to my mind is Raskolnikov from the book "Crime and Punishment" by Dostoevsky. This character shows that even a self-important murderer can repent, become humble and come to God, asking for forgiveness.
To conclude, I believe that everyone can correct themselves, so everyone can be changed to the good tree that brings forth good fruit.

| I agree with Tikhon Zadonsky. For instance, if we consider more mundane matters, then any path towards improvement is a long and challenging journey. For example, athletes train daily, seek out various coaches, experiment with different approaches, follow diets, but only a select few have the opportunity to take part in the Olympics.
Yes, this may seem like a banal example, but I believe it simply illustrates how difficult our earthly existence is and how much effort and time we must invest in reaching our ultimate goal.
I frequently reflect on the fact that just a few years ago, I was an entirely different person. The Lord imparts so much wisdom and understanding with each mistake we make.

| I agree with this statement. We have already discussed the idea that in order to get a good harvest, one must put in hard work. I believe this is similar to the idea that if you want your efforts to bring you good results, you must learn to pray with humility and a desire for improvement.
To some people, it may seem easy to just pray more, but I think these people have never tried to get rid of a habit they may have. If one is not used to praying, then starting to say the rules may seem extremely difficult.
