| The Gospel of Matthew says: "Not that which get into the mouth defileth a man; but that which comes out of the mouth, this defileth a man". Our speech is a powerful weapon. We can pray, comfort our neighbor, praise God, admonish the lost, and thank when we are admonished. But we can also blaspheme, slander, perjure, insult loved ones and break hearts.
Every time a Christian is going to say something, he must keep in mind that every word has weight and consequences. Wouldn't it be wiser to be silent more so as not to make mistakes? Perhaps. But speech is a gift from God and we need it in order to do good.
However, I agree with Venerable Isaac the Syrian: we need a lot of wisdom so that our speech does not lead us to temptation.

| I agree with the statement of St. Isaac the Syrian. Indeed, our tongue can become our enemy if we do not restrain it. Such sins as foul language, idle talk and verbosity are the product of our thoughts, from which our soul can suffer. No wonder there is a saying that silence is gold. The less we say and the more we think about what to say, the better for our heart. We can prevent ourselves from committing sins if we restrain ourselves from thoughtless speeches.
