Knowledge can bring both good and evil. Thanks to knowledge, people have invented nuclear weapons. Instead, they could provide all the houses with electricity or light.

Many people mention nuclear weapons as an epitome of ultimate evil. This is clearly a misconception. Thanks to our nuclear arsenals we in Russia have lived in peace for the last eighty years. In contrast, those countries which do not possess nuclear weapons have suffered bombardments, invasions, forceful regime changes and disintegrations over the same period of time. Examples are too numerous to be mentioned here. Like any tool or weapon, nuclear arms can be used both for good and for evil. In case of our country they have brought nothing but good so far.

I absolutely agree with St. Paphnutius. I remember my lecture on history of Russian Church about how saint Tikhon became a patriarch. The lecturer told us this beautiful story. She said that there were a few candidates to became a patriarch: metropolitan Tikhon (Bellavin) and metropolitan Antony (Khrapovitsky). Metropolitan Antony (Khrapovitsky) was a very intelligent man, he was a professor and a doctor of theology. And metropolitan Tikhon (Bellavin) who hadn't any theological degrees but people liked him as he was a very kind bishop. In the last round he was randomly chosen to be a new patriarch - many people see God's will in this case because in the first round he received the fewest votes. The lecturer said to us: "it happens that sometimes you need not the knowledge, but goodness".

Knowledge can be different, we should carefully filter everything that is told or shown to us. Sometimes people do something for their own benefit, and not for the sake of good, such knowledge is not real, it is unnecessary and evil. Good experience will never be lost, it is transmitted through love, sacrifice, gift. It is worth accepting and keeping in your heart, but you need to save yourself from evil knowledge, reject it.

Knowledge is what men crave. There's nothing wrong with that: God has endowed us with an inquisitive mind and a desire to develop so that we can learn more about His glory. However, kindness. mercy, goodness - it makes a person saved, not knowledge, diplomas and degrees.

Much of the knowledge of malicious people brings only sorrow. Scientists develop dangerous weapons instead of useful inventions, people's personal information is used against them. Truly, without love and goodness, nothing but evil can be extracted from knowledge. Therefore, I fully agree with the idea of St. Paphnutius.
