Have you ever been broke? What did it feel like? How did you manage?

Have you ever been rolling in it? What did it feel like? How did you spend it?

Do you usually manage to make ends meet, or things are a bit tight as a rule?

Do you think you are ever going to be strapped for cash? Why / why not?

What way do you usually pay your household bills (by cash in a bank / direct debit / electronic transfer, using ATM...)?

Do you have a credit card / know anyone who does? What is the APR for it? What do people usually put (stick) on their credit cards?

Do you have any store cards? Do you find them helpful? What other types of cards do you use?

Have you ever received any lump sums / golden handshakes?

Do you expect to have any life savings by the time you retire?

To be honest, I really hope that by the time I retire I will have a certain amount of money that will allow me to live in peace. I don't have high expectations of living somewhere by the sea in a luxury mansion (although I wouldn't refuse such a thing biggrin ), but I would like to provide myself and my husband with a peaceful elderly life, without worries and difficulties.

My grandparents never suffered after retirement, they were well taken care of by their children and we were always together, often travelling with them. Of course it is a great happiness when retirement becomes a joyful time, unfortunately this is not available to many and it is very upsetting.

Even now I save some part of my salary in a savings account. It seems to me it is necessary, because we never know what will happen to us tomorrow, it is important for any person to have a financial safety net.

After her startup failed, Claire found herself strapped for cash and she started taking freelance jobs just to make ends meet. Things were a bit tight for her at that time. Suddenly a client sent a big  unexpected electronic transfer for a completed project, it felt like a golden handshake for her.

I hate credit cards and don't have one. I don't like them because of their idea, it feels like this money is not mine, I can't spend it. And indeed it's the bank's money, not yours. There are people in grocery shops who come to you and try to bamboozle you. They suggest you to take a new discount card, but instead they give you a credit card. I think this is awful, because these people are liars, deceiving naive people.

To conclude, I don't have credit cards, and I don't like them. I think that it's better to have usual debit cards and pay with your own money.

1. Eve went to WITHDRAW some money but forgot her PIN, and the ATM swallowed her card. 2. Unfortunately, her card wasn't a CONTACTLESS one. 3. She just got a GOLDEN HANDSHAKE, and this happened. 4. What a pity, she has to make ends meet. 5. I believe Eve will roll in it one day.

I can't say that I have a lot of financial difficulties, because we both work hard to avoid them and we have some financial rules in our family.

However, I always have something to compare with. Two years ago, for instance, we didn't have enough money for even basic needs and we had to do jobs we didn't enjoy. Now, we both have jobs we love and we save money every month to plan for the future. At the same time, we don't deny ourselves little pleasures like going to a cafe after work on Sundays.

I believe our generation is less good at saving than our parents', because we are more used to comforts and small joys. But I also think it's hard to live without them.

1) They were two best friends and one of them was BROKE and the other WAS ROLLING IN IT. 2) The poor one was STRAPPED FOR CASH and her greatest wish was to enter the university and to get a degree, but only a LUMP SUM could save her life. 3) The rich friend always had STOCKS AND SHARES, huge LIFE SAVINGS and she never BORROWED HEAVILY  and never experienced the feeling of needing to MAKE ENDS MEET. 4) Finally, the rich friend decided to help her best friend, so she COVERED THE COST of her studies in the university.

Have you ever been broke? What did it feel like? How did you manage?

As a student, I have had many situations where I have been was left with no money. I still live with my parents, so this hasn't been something that has totally ruined my life, but it has still been an unpleasant experience. Currently, I am trying to earn my own income so that my parents don't worry about my "wish list". I pay for my student ID card, gadgets, clothes, and other things myself. However, sometimes it is difficult to cover all these spending expenses because I cannot afford to get a full-time job due to my studies. When it comes to holidays, the situation becomes more difficult. I need to buy presents for everyone and also pay for my daily expenses, but I never ask my parents for money. When I am broke, I try to minimise my spending and focus on the essentials. Fortunately, I don't spend my money impulsively and always have some on my savings account.

3) They accuse my father of debit card fraud.
4) I don't have many store cards, so I often overpay for goods. 5) I watched the film The Commuter a few days ago and heard the expression 'a golden handshake'.
