What are the advantages and disadvantages of having a roomy and a compact dwelling? Which one would you prefer?

This summer I was on the Curonian Spit near Kaliningrad. We got there by plane and took a taxi to Zelenogradsk. After walking around the city, we went to our destination.
We rode a long bus ride, hemmed in by crowds. Despite two hours of torment and traffic jams, we finally arrived and were very excited. In our place were several tents surrounded by the pines, the sound of the sea and its location was perfect because it was far from people! We rested in cramped tents, which were surprisingly spacious. We could stand up to our full height, and there was enough room for a bed and storage.
The weather was great - we sunbathed on the beach and swam in the warm Baltic Sea. We also rode bikes along the entire Curonian Spit. But the highlight of our vacation was the sauna, which was located in a compact building. It was wonderful to warm up and then walk outside under the starry sky before falling asleep in fresh air.

1) A ROOMY car parked nearby the RAMBLING building. 2) I couldn’t notice who got out of the car because I was HEMMED IN by the crowds. 3) So I decided to pick peep inside the car and there were a lot of people who were PACKED IN LIKE SARDINES so I was really frightened and decided to run back onto CONGESTED streets.

A compact dwelling is more cozy and intimate. However, if you have a large collection of items, a spacious house would be more appropriate. For example, I want to have my own library, but it takes a lot of space. So my ideal dwelling needs to be cozy and have some space for my favourite things. I think that the best variant is in between. P. S. : One episode of the cartoon "Futurama" precisely illustrates your question. In this episode two best friends live in each other's apartments. One friend is a robot, his name is Bender. He lives in a very compact apartment, it's poky as a wardrobe. He thinks it's the best place to live, while his friend Fry can't even sit there, because it's too small for him. And when Bender comes to Fry's apartment it feels awkward and uncomfortable for him, because he thinks it's too roomy. So everyone has their own comfort zone to live in.

------------------------- 1. My flat is so POKY, I can't even SQUEEZE between a table and a chair. 2. When my friends visit me, we are PACKED IN LIKE SARDINES. 3. My friend Fred always says: there ISN'T ENOUGH ROOM TO SWING A CAT. 4. I wish I had a ROOMY house or a RAMBLING mansion with a SPACIOUS garden.

Every dwelling has its own pros and cons, and you have to think about your personal needs in order to choose one. As for roomy dwellings, I would like to mention space and comfort. You can decorate your home in any style you prefer, and there can be different rooms that you can use for personal purposes. For example, you can create your own hobby room, where you will store all the equipment for your activities, or you can make a movie room with a huge, extremely soft sofa, shutters that can be closed, and a big screen (or a wall if you're using a projector) to watch movies on. In my opinion, the biggest drawback is that you need to clean more often, which takes time, but if you can afford it, you can hire someone to do it for you.
As for compact dwellings, I can say that they are more cozy and provide a feeling of personal safety. They don't have wide open spaces and are quite cramped, which feels more comfortable for some people. If you live alone, small houses are cheaper, and you don't need to spend a lot on rent. However, there are disadvantages: if your family is large, living in a compact dwelling may cause conflicts between members. It's difficult to organize extended family gatherings, as there is usually no space.
Personally, I prefer to live in a roomy dwelling, because I value the opportunity for personal growth and feel more free in large spaces where I can decorate and do whatever my heart desires.
4,5 __________________ 1) Every Tuesday I go to uni and there's no room to swing a cat in the metro car. 2) If I manage to squeeze in, there's no space to breath. 3) People are packed in like sardines. 4) The only thing I think about at such moments is a spacious room with wide open windows.

This summer I travelled to Greece, to a monastery I love very much. I had been there a year before this summer, but many things happened to me there for the first time. The monastery has a small house for visitors where they can stay comfortably. This year I lived in a spacious room with two beds and a very beautiful view of the mountains. Every evening after the service and dinner, I watched the incredible sunsets, the light of which coloured my room.
The monastery itself is not very big, but it is roomy and has a lot of wide-open spaces. There are about twenty nuns who live in a separate area where each has her own cell. They also have many compact rooms with household supplies. They are all in a separate building where all the workshops are located. This year I worked almost every day in the compact workshop where we made different soaps, shampoos and creams.

The living room is surprisingly spacious, a contrast to the cramped apartment we previously lived in. Now, we have enough room to spread out we do not need to feel packed like sardines. It is a luxury to finally have a roomy space where we can comfortably squeeze in a few extra guests without feeling overwhelmed by the lack of room.
