How much exercise do you do every week? What type(s) of exercise do you do?

Do you know how many calories you burn? (There are websites that tell you how to calculate this for the activities you do.)

Have you ever been on a diet? Share your experience.

Do you think you could improve your diet? How?

Write five pieces of advice relating to diet and fitness. In each sentence use at least one vocabulary item worked on in this  unit.

Find an article on the theme of diet and fitness. Read it and write a summary of it.

How much exercise do you do every week? What type(s) of exercise do you do?

Throughout my life, I have been searching for the right sport for me, one that gives me joy and pleasure. It's not really that easy. A few years ago, when my dad had just started running marathons, I became very interested in running and decided to train for my very first distance, 10 kilometres. During the preparation, I encountered a lot of problems: high heart rate, asthma, and the race itself was postponed for one year and then two more. By the end of it, I was completely desperate and stopped running, as I started having health problems because of this sport. Nevertheless, during the period of active training, I ran more than 15 kilometres in one training session.

For the last year I have been looking for an alternative to running, as university life involves a sedentary lifestyle, which is very bad for one's health. Not so long ago, a friend of mine told me about a training studio where students get a discount on their membership and now I try to go there at least twice a week. There are always two types of group training sessions to choose from: power training or more relaxing ones designed to tone muscles.

Chloe’s sporty nature meant she had a high metabolism and could burn calories very easily. A brisk walk in the morning was all she needed to feel energised. A bowl of oatmeal provided the perfect fuel for her day, allowing her to sail through the day.

Have you ever been on a diet? Share your experience.

When I was in the 10th grade, I became a homeschooler again. COVID-19 came, which gave me a lot of opportunities to change things in my life.
Firstly, I have never counted any calories in my whole life. For some people, it's normal to control how much food they eat every day, but for me, it's and absolutely unfamiliar activity. People say it's good for your health and gives you enough energy for the day, but I think it's ridiculous. Well, if that's okay with them, I don't mind.
Secondly, I only went on a diet once in my life - during the lockdown - and that really helped me become who I am today. I didn't eat after 6 pm (even if I didn't have dinner or lunch), and it was important not to eat in between meals because otherwise you can't control how much you eat. It was hard to keep up with this diet, as I had a lot of online classes in the evenings and was often hungry because I was always late for dinner. But after a month, the results started to show. I ate less and felt better about it. This was a time of my mental and physical recovery, because nobody could put any pressure on me and it was totally my decision.

Answering the question about whether I have ever been on a diet, it is difficult to choose one specific diet or method for weight loss. In general, I have some thoughts on this topic,  which may not even be clear to the older generation.

Our generation had access to the internet during adolescence, but it was not as useful as it is today. Teenage girls, who were going through natural changes, looked for information on the internet. As you can imagine, the internet at that time had a lot of radical weight loss methods. Nowadays, many young people, both men and women, have health problems and an incorrect perception of food and their bodies, as well as psychological problems. To me, this makes the topic of food, diets, and other things personal. Even if everything is fine for you, whether you eat and don't gain weight or, on the contrary, carefully monitor your diet, it's better not to share that information, giving advice or getting into someone else's plate.

My friend  was INTENDED ON losing weight and also wanted  to speed up her METABOLISM. For breakfast she always had OATMEAL and vegetables with LENTILS for dinner. She became very SPORTY and SAILED THROUGH her diet in one month.

I really like eating unhealthy food and often go to fast food restaurants. It is cheap and yummy, but, unfortunately, junk food is cholesterol-rich and nutritious and eventually leads to posing a danger to the body. Probably I should eat more high-fibre food, such as fruit, vegetables and oatmeal and eat less junk food. But now I enjoy things how they are. And if I had to choose between only eating lentils or fast food for the rest of my life, I would definitely choose the latter.
But of course I don't want to have problems with my heart and get a stroke. I hope to find balance between pleasure and benefit in my diet.
