| Choose one of the binomials below and build a story around it. It can be a real-life story, or fictional. Use as many of other binomials from the unit as possible. Of course, you may choose some other binomial as the core one for your story.

| He was a very prim and proper person at first glance. But if you look at him better, you can discover many amazing things. Mr. Green was great at finding a way out of high and dry situations. He never allowed himself to rant and rave at someone, as he considered it unworthy behavior. Moreover, to get annoyed because of all sorts of the odds and ends means not being able to control yourself. Every evening after work, Mr. Green tried to find time for rest and recreation. After all, it's really nice to enjoy peace and quiet. I think this person could be called an adult and rational, because this approach are part and parcel of development.

| Johnny understood at his early age that he lives in a family of high standards. Its credo was - sink or swim. Johnny's father, Mr Silver always was saying to his son: 'you should do your best always. Be Caesar or nobody. Take all or nothing'. It was said about everything: studying and sports, hobbys and conversations, all the odds and ends. First and foremost, Mr. Silver meant being diligent at every activity his son was doing. No rough and ready things. The bar must be high, and the efforts are to be relevant. "Take it or leave it" - do your best or don't try. Mr. Silver saw Johnny was a gifted boy, and knew that only efforts are a guarantee of achieving success for him. And Johnny did his best, slowly but surely, with little steps, without leaps and bounds.

| Mandelstam was a philologist, he studied ancient Greek language. Education for him was part and parcel of life, as it is for us as well. Once he came to the lesson unprepared, so he was really high and dry. Nevertheless the student was all peace and quiet. He admitted that his homework was rough and ready, but instead of it he had made up a poem, so here it is:
И глагольных окончаний колокол
Мне вдали указывает путь,
Чтобы в келье скромного филолога
От моих печалей отдохнуть.
Забываю тягости и горести,
И меня преследует вопрос:
Приращенье нужно ли в аористе
И какой залог «пепайдевкос»?

Education is PART AND PARCEL of life. Of course sometimes it’s not easy to work, there are some difficulties ON AND OFF. Sometimes students just need REST AND RECREATION or PEACE AND QUIET, but after that they are OUT AND ABOUT again.

| Sink or swim
The ancient Chinese philosopher Confucius once said: "The greatest glory is not to never make mistakes, but to be able to rise every time you fall". I assume such words are really motivating not to give up and fight to the end.
The point is that you can fall many times in your life, but not once will be considered a defeat as long as you get up. The "sink or swim" expression means a situation in which a person must save himself on his own, otherwise he will fail.
Everyone knows that there is always both good and bad in life. But failures and blunders make a person stronger. Therefore, even if you were left high and dry, you need to go further with the flow.There is also an expression "all or nothing" and it can be associated with "sink or swim". If you swim, you will successfully get everything. If you give up and don't make any effort, you will lose everything.

SOONER OR LATER he will have to accept the loss. Despite the fact that she was his PART AND PARCEL, life goes on. It will hurt to remember the past ON AND OFF, but these thoughts will be as blessed as her memory.

| He was left high and dry. And things went from bad to worse. He had problems with money and with his social status. What is more, he was destroyed mentally. And it was very hard to him to realise this problem - he had always thought that sentimental «issues» are something opposite to what he was calling masculinity. That is why he was surprised when he finally understood - he indeed felt bad, he was trodden, despondent. How did it happen and why did it hurt so much? Yes, he was left high and dry. What a weird feeling to be alone and helpless. It felt as if he was hit with a spade or as if a bucket of ice water was poured on him. He was left in a difficult situation and was unable to do anything about it. He was left high and dry.
