Censorship is unacceptable, for no limits should be set to the freedom of expression.

Most governments ACKNOWLEDGE people’s rights and ADMIT that people have the freedom of conscience, of religion, of movement, of assembly, of the press and so on. It is obvious that we all have the right to speak freely. It is stated in our Constitution. Nobody can prevent us from expressing ourselves. THAT’S ALL VERY WELL, BUT these rights can also have some downsides.

Everyone is aware that the Internet is a place where the freedom of speech is proclaimed. ADMITTEDLY, people can share their opinions on all kinds of topics and, as many believe, “From the clash of opinions emerges the truth”. However, in fact, THE REVERSE IS TRUE.

People’s expectations and reality ARE POLES APART. Psychologists believe that young people, teenagers and children should know the truth of life from the very beginning not to be hurt by tough reality in their maturity. ON THE OTHER HAND, some information may be damaging for our mental health. From my point of view, the scenes of violence and lechery are unacceptable not only for young viewers, but also for adults.

For example, the popular network Instagram has been banned several days ago because of incitement to violence against Russian military forces. I know some Russians who were fully absorbed in this topic, who tried to find the truth and read all the available information. ALTHOUGH they wished to keep a cool head, it was impossible and finally they got the nervous breakdown. I suppose it’s due to numerous cases of violence that they met surfing the net during the war of information.

To conclude, AFTER ALL, there’s a HUGE DISCREPANCY between what we expect to get and what we really receive from censorship. It is a great thing, FOR ALL THAT, only with the strict control of the government.

I ACCEPT that censorship is impossible, especially in our time. We all can remember history, for example, there were a lot of emigre writers who wrote abroad and they were banned in the USSR. ON THE OTHER HAND, when the USSR collapsed, all the books under the censorship were allowed to be published. IN CONTRAST, I wanted to say that censorship can work against people who want to ban something, for example there is an effect named "The Streisand effect”. It is a phenomenon whereby the attempt to suppress something only brings more attention or notoriety to it. It is named after American singer Barbra Streisand, whose attempt to suppress the California Coastal Records Project’s photograph of her residence in Malibu wasn’t successful. Eventually this photo became known worldwide.
